Fault Code Removal

Clear persistent fault codes, diagnose root causes and get rid of those stubborn dashboard warning lights for good.

Diagnose First, Then Fix

A warning light on your dashboard does not always mean something is seriously wrong. Fault codes can persist long after the original issue has been repaired, or appear when aftermarket parts have been fitted that the ECU does not recognise. A standard OBD reset will clear some codes temporarily, but if the underlying ECU configuration hasn't been updated, the light comes straight back.

We start with a full diagnostic read of your ECU to understand exactly what codes are stored, what triggered them and whether they point to a genuine mechanical issue or a software-level problem. If the code is spurious or persistent after a completed repair, we can remove it at ECU level so it does not return.

We will not remove a code that is flagging a genuine fault. If your vehicle needs mechanical attention, we will tell you honestly and recommend the right course of action. Our goal is to solve the problem properly, not just hide the symptom.

    Post-Repair Codes

A repair has been completed but the warning light persists. The ECU needs recalibrating to recognise the new component or reset its learned values.

    Aftermarket Parts

Non-OEM parts fitted that the ECU does not fully recognise. Common with catalytic converters, sensors and exhaust components.

    Intermittent Faults

A warning light that comes and goes. Often caused by wiring issues, aging sensors or environmental factors. We pinpoint the root cause and resolve it.

    Frequently Asked Questions

A fault code (also called a DTC - Diagnostic Trouble Code) is stored in your vehicle's ECU when a sensor or system reports a reading outside its expected range. This usually triggers a warning light on your dashboard. Some codes indicate a genuine mechanical issue, while others can persist after repairs have been completed or when non-standard parts have been fitted.

Some fault codes are 'hard coded' into the ECU and will return even after being cleared with a standard OBD reader. This can happen after repairs, part replacements, or modifications where the ECU still expects the original configuration. In these cases, the code needs to be removed at ECU level rather than just reset.

We can remove most persistent and spurious fault codes. However, we always diagnose the root cause first. If a fault code is flagging a genuine issue that needs mechanical attention, we will advise you to get that repaired rather than simply masking the warning. We only remove codes where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

If a fault code relates to an emissions system on a road-legal vehicle, removing it could cause an MOT failure. We will always advise you on this before any work is done. For off-road and competition vehicles, this is not a concern.

Diagnosis typically takes 30-60 minutes depending on the complexity. If the code can be removed via ECU recalibration, the full process usually takes 1-2 hours. We come to you across Manchester so there is no need to visit a garage.
